About Plaitx
Since 2023, Plaitx has been a marketplace dedicated to strengthening Black communities. For generations, our wealth has been extracted, and our labor underpaid. Our voices get silenced, our reach gets throttled, and our networks get collapsed when we need them. Plaitx is an independent space that keeps our economy circulating, our connections strong, and our communities ready- online and off. Built, owned, and managed by Black people who are ‘on code’, Plaitx exists to ensure our communities thrive.
Why Plaitx Exists
Plaitx was born from a hard truth: Black communities are vulnerable online. The name itself is rooted in our hair, our hands, our heritage. To plait is to weave, to bind threads into something strong enough to hold.
That’s what Plaitx does, we braid together commerce, care, and community into a system that lasts. When the power goes out, Plaitx activates. When the internet collapses, we shift to real-world events. When crisis hits, we move because we’re a family who understands and acknowledges what our ancestors went through to get us here.
“When my sister told me she couldn’t see my posts, I realized I wasn’t just being ignored—I was being erased. That moment was my wake-up call. If they can disappear us digitally, they can disconnect us for real. Plaitx was my answer.”
-Roxanne webster, founder

What Makes Plaitx Different
• Built by us, for us – Every tool, every post, every design choice centers Black needs and realities.
• Beyond digital – Plaitx runs deep in the real world, through events like the Big Hood Flea Market.
• Resilience-first – We’re not just here for the good times. We’re the system after the system.
• We circulate our wealth – Every transaction strengthens the ecosystem, not outsiders.
How Plaitx Works
• Vendors: List your products and services, reach real customers, grow with community support.
• The People: Join or build groups, connect across cities, and organize together.
• The Buyers: Shop intentionally. Every dollar stays in our circle.
On Plaitx, our voices are centered.
During Black History Month, “White History Month” won’t trend. Our stories don’t get drowned out. This is our space, and we guard it.
